On August 2, 2024, as part of World Breastfeeding Week, the Department of Pediatrics at JIMS Hospital organized a comprehensive Female Orientation Program in the hospital’s IPD. This session was designed to educate pregnant and lactating mothers, their attendees, and the nursing staff on crucial aspects of breastfeeding.
The program covered a range of topics including:
* Importance of Breastfeeding: Emphasizing the benefits of mother’s milk for both the mother and infant.
* Breastfeeding Positions: Detailed explanations and demonstrations of different breastfeeding positions, including the cross-cradle position.
* Common Problems: Addressing common issues faced by mothers and children.
* Types of Milk: Comparing formula milk with mother’s milk and discussing the importance of burping.
* Breastfeeding Counseling: Providing 45 key points on breastfeeding through oral presentations and a tutorial video.
Under the supervision of Dr. Mohammed Irfan, Dr. Manisha Thakur, Dr. Sreeja, and Dr. Bhavya Shikha, the session was thoroughly informative. Dr. M. Ramya Krishna, along with pediatric PG students, as well as Dr. Aparna Kuppa, Dr. Sai Dharani Ranga, Dr. Lahari, Dr. Suchi, Dr. Rukhiya, and Dr. Harsha Priya, addressed the patients and their attendees in the vernacular language, ensuring clear and accessible communication.
A tutorial video demonstrating different breastfeeding positions was also displayed, enhancing the educational experience. The information was well-received by the participants, contributing to a successful and informative event.
